BaCC Round 1: Spring Year 01 AE (After Escaping) - Kiri

The first 5 days away from SimCity has had the sims glorying in the life outside of SimCity.

Smelling flowers, playing in the rain, smelling flowers,

getting to know each other, smelling flowers,

starting to find things to do, smelling flowers...

You know, the usual before you start putting in mods to stop them from smelling the flowers.

Spring has been very rainy, quite stormy with occasional fires from lightening.

Every household has spent their first day skilling. Because no-one is allowed burglar alarms or fire alarms until restrictions are lifted, there's no way I was letting them near the stove until at least one cooking skill was obtained.

The political candidate will be the one with the most friends and the highest friendship scores at the end of Round 1. They're escaping the fascism and 'democracy' of Sim-City, and experimenting with what real democracy could look like.

Kiri's home was first. After getting a cooking point and a creative point (easel), she got a visit from Fiona. Fiona and Kiri got on very well, and spent time admiring each other and wanting to be friends then best friends.

The Studley boys came over and Kiri was very chatty with Simon while Stephan spent most of the time hanging out in the flowerbed on all fours. Spaghetti was made for dinner and everyone was appreciative of Kiri's ability to put a saucepan in the oven.

Fiona was impressed by the wall. Simon was impressed with Kiri's underwear choice. Kiri was not impressed that her guests didn't go home when asked. At 1am she shooed them out of the house and went back to bed.

Starting Rules - Playing Round 1.

Based on Nepheris' BaCC rule set, and adapted for how I want to play

Restrictions

- No electronics. There is basic electricity for fridges and stoves and lights due to a wind farm. But that's it. No TV reception, no internet.

- Swimming in the lake. Sprinklers on the community lot are fed from the lake. But basic plumbing came with the houses and are fed from the lake. There will be a dice roll if there is a lack of rain in Autumn/Winter to determine if there will be water rationing.

- No cars. They were dropped out here, and left to fend for themselves. Cars won't happen until they build them themselves!!!

- No delivery service of any kind. That includes groceries, Pizza and Chinese food.

- No services of any kind. That includes the maid, butler, repairman, gardener, exterminator, nanny, adoption service.

- No townies. Your settlers are literally the only people in town as of yet.

- No fertilising gardening plots. The land is wild and has never been tilled before, and it will take a while before it can yield good crops. The land can be fertilised from compost that you have made.

- 2 community lots only. Mossi Lake and the Communal Allotment. Have minimal structures but are needed if the community is to survive. While Mossi Lake is available, sims will not go there until they are comfortable at home.

- No Home businesses that sell anything other than items you crafted/grew/caught yourself. Where would you get them from, anyway? All things that are sold here, come from here.

 - No home businesses can be started unless the sim has at least 1 skill point in the associated skill for it.

- No hobby lots. They're back in the city, miles and miles from where your settlers currently are.

- No careers except Politics. This is assigned once the community has chosen a leader (based on who's most popular at the end of Spring, Round 1 after a community meeting at the allotment - free will based).

Bits and Pieces:

  1.  Every sim who pays bills (that money notionally goes to the Town Leader - it will be rosebudded to the leader at the beginning of their turn). The Town Leader is not able to use this money except on public projects.
  2. Income is generated by selling things to each other, so home businesses are allowed. They are also allowed to sell from their inventory to SimCity which will notionally be understood as the Town Leader takes the things to sell to SimCity when they go in for their training.
  3. If a baby is born, they can buy from the buy mode unless there is already a furniture store. Notionally understood as Town Leader buys the baby things to bring back to the community and sells at cost.

Round 1 lasts for 2 Seasons. (Seasons are standard Maxis length which is 3 days I think?)

At the end of Round 1:

  • everyone is taxed 10% of their net value.
  • For every new baby, a new immigrant is available. Minimum amount = 1 new immigrant.
  • For every new business, a new immigrant is available.
  • Skills and events are tallied to determine which thing the community decides to work on next.
  • For each Sim, one new piece of Hood Deco is allowed to be added.

Setting up the BaCC

 1. Choose a BaCC. Wanted a small terrain, and had a hankering to do 4 Corners from Life Stories.

Couldn't find the SC4 terrains online, so have created a rar from the LifeStories game. Pop them in the SC4Terrains folder to use. There are no pictures, but it has an inbuilt picture?

2. Stuff I want in game - Loaded up my defaults, basic genetic choices.

  • Bin contains all the CC that I always use, but thinking I should add some recolours for some things - or more importantly more of my own stuff.
  • Added the Sunnyside small lots by aelflaed at MTS2 as packages, renamed them to cx_000000nn where nn = 01 to 20 and put them in the LotCatalog, so that they appear in the Lot bin automagically without having to install them through teleport. (Sims2pack has the ability to install these as packages when you unclick the default the installation).
  •  Starting homes - The Council Houses by JoandSarah77 at MTS2 good sized homes clocking in at 10K to purchase - no furniture. Sounds perfect.
  • Extra CC - Sofa Beds - LaMare's Functional Sofa bed Because they may not have enough money for both a bed and a sofa, if they have enough for a sofa bed, then that's what will happen.

Sims 2 picture of 6 houses in a cul-de-sac

The six starter houses. Have been updated to look all slightly different. Inside has been changed to give wood floors, white tiles, and buttercup walls - because that's what council houses do. When they have money to change them up, they can redecorate.

The main community lot - set up as communal allotment like they have in some places where people can go to grow their own food.

There are the 3 Maxis trees, and the Sun and Moon Trees - two dwarf trees and one full size tree. A place where they can fish , and a row of places to plant vegetables. I want to plant Sun and Moon veges, but  will start with tomatoes, lettuce and whatever else they normally have.

Once the fridges are empty of food, they will not be buying food except what is grown there. Tours of lots on a different post.

There is also a place to make coffee, and go to the bathroom in the shed, and one of simwardrobe's packing stations so that we can pack up the food in bulk.

The final lot is a more recreational lot that was made by a friend of mine - Mossi Lake.

Mossi Lake is a vacation in the main hood lot - it has a swimmable lake, log rolling, hammer throwing, places to eat, places to sleep, and all. (I need to replace the diving board and ladder - and this image is my reminder to do that).

When they want to have fun, it is to Mossi Lake they come! (I should make a tourist poster for it!)

The current batch of starting Sims. Fiona deSimberville, Holly Gear, Sim-Kiri, Christopher Miller, Simon Studley and Stephan Studley.

Holly Gear is from my D&D campaign (home), Stephan and Simon Studley are sims I made back in 2005 that were updated.

The Studley boys have the same father but different mothers. They found each other only after their father died. He was a sailor who had a family in every port. The will was complicated and that is how they realised they were half-brothers.

Everyone here is starting up this hood because they were tired of problems in society at SimCity. Years of fascism and racism has taken its toll and no-one feels safe. Here they are trying to build a safe and inclusive society. Fascism, racism, sexism, prejudice of all kinds are not acceptable.

(Yes, they are all white sims - this is a fact of poor eyesight (mine) rather than a bias against people of colour - more people of colour will be arriving as the society grows and I get a new monitor.

Also, sims need to see that they are inclusive before they trust them. Who knows whether they are able to do as they think.
